About this Award

As part of its 40th anniversary celebrations in 2007-2008, the Faculty of Education created a number of new scholarships to recognize Ontario's leading educators. The Faculty's goal was to support and encourage its students in their quest for excellence, while at the same time maintaining its main objective of training deserving teachers and researchers.

Denis Lévesque and Ronald Leduc are two individuals in the field of education we would like to honour for their leadership and contributions to French-language education and, in particular, in the area of special education. They are both graduates of the University of Ottawa's Faculty of Education. Although he is now retired, Denis Lévesque continues to be an adjunct professor with an interest in both the initial training of teachers and special education. Ronald Leduc, also retired, remains active in the field of education as a consultant in the areas of planning and delivery of services and programs in Ontario's French-language school boards. Both men were, at different times during their careers, director of the Centre Jules-Léger—a French-language demonstration school for youth with learning disabilities and youth who are deaf, blind or deaf-blind—they co-founded in 1979.

Denis Lévesque and Ronald Leduc would like to thank the Government of Ontario, which helped to create this fund through its generous matching contribution.
