Purpose of this Award

To provide financial assistance to a graduate or postdoctoral student registered at the University of Ottawa.

Eligibility Criteria

The candidate must:

  1. be registered as a full-time student in a graduate or postdoctoral program at the University of Ottawa
  2. have completed their previous program of study in the past five years
  3. meet the Ontario residency requirement, as per OSAP rules
  4. demonstrate financial need, as determined by the Financial Aid and Awards Service of the University of Ottawa

How to Apply

Submitted in the Online Scholarship and Bursaries portal, accessible via uoZone, and must include:

  1. the Financial Questionnaire
  2. proof that the applicant has completed their previous program of study in the last five years
In the case of multiple candidates meeting the base requirements, the selection committee will select the recipient based on the award policies and standard criteria used by the Financial Aid and Awards Service at the time of selection.

About this Award

Mr. Roy had a long association with the University of Ottawa. Born In Maniwaki, Quebec, he enrolled at the University High School in 1943 and then obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1951 and later a License in Theology in 1957. The next year, he returned to the University of Ottawa High School as a teacher then Vice-principal and Principal until it closed in 1971. He completed his career in Education as a Principal and Assistant-superintendent with the Ottawa Board of Education.

Mrs. Roy, born in Hungary, obtained her Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Montreal and her Master of Education degree in Special Education from McGill University. Her career as a Special Education teacher at both the Elementary and Secondary levels was carried out in Montreal and Ottawa. She also taught at the University of Ottawa Child Study Center. 

Since both Mr. and Mrs. Roy made Education a life time career, they felt only fitting to extend their involvement in Education through this scholarship fund.
