About this Award

This fund was established by Mrs. Adalgisa Chiappa-Draghi in memory of her daughter Franca, who passed away on July 25, 2001, after a valiant battle with cancer in her home in Milan, Italy. Franca emigrated to Canada as a child and obtained a baccalaureate degree from the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Ottawa in 1974. She then returned to Italy bringing with her many fond memories of her youth in her adopted country. The Draghi family has a strong link with the University of Ottawa—Franca's parents, Adalgisa and Guglielmo, both worked at the University of Ottawa for many years. The founder wishes to thank friends and family members for their generous donations and the University of Ottawa and the Government of Ontario for their contributions under their matching program.
