About this Award

The Claudine-Anne Dirren-Zamprelli Memorial Scholarship was created in 1998. It honours Claudine, a friend, feminist, musician, proud Franco-Manitoban, optimist, and idealist. She was an undergraduate student at the University of Ottawa from 1989 to 1994. After she died in a car accident in 1997, Claudine’s former University of Ottawa roommates — Anne Carbert, Krista James, Margot Lange, and Ann Montgomery — initiated this memorial scholarship with the support of Claudine’s parents, Berthe Dirren and Jim Zamprelli.

The award criteria reflect some of Claudine’s many passions. A young, active student, Claudine had a commitment to women’s rights and a love of music and francophone culture that were very evident in her daily life. The group of former roommates and Claudine’s parents together review the scholarship applications each year to select recipients who share some of Claudine’s valued interests.

The donors wish to thank the Alumni Association of the University of Ottawa and the Government of Ontario, who helped create this fund through their generous matching contributions.
