Purpose of this Award
To raise awareness and promote Irish theatre in Canada and Ireland by assisting students at the Department of Theatre of the University of Ottawa.
Eligibility Criteria
The candidate must:
- be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, a person with the protected/refugee status or an international student
- be registered as a full-time student in a program at the Department of Theatre of the University of Ottawa
- be involved with Irish theatre in some capacity, through academic research, theatre practice, or field work in Ireland
Note: The recipient will be asked to produce a brief report to the Selection Committee on the completed studies or activities, which can be shared with the donor.

- a proposal (max. 500 words) for an activity or initiative relating to Irish theatre

Irish theatre is a rich treasure trove. From the absurdist Samuel Beckett to the effete Oscar Wilde, Irish playwrights over two centuries include Brendan Behan, Dermot Bolger, Padraig Colum, Roddy Doyle, Bernard Farrell, Oliver Goldsmith, James Joyce, Patrick Kavanagh, John B. Keane, Hugh Leonard, Michael Mac Liammoir, Martin MacDonagh, Frank McGuinness, George Moore, Tom Murphy, Lady Gregory, Sean O’Casey, George Bernard Shaw, John Millington Synge, Colm Tobin, William Butler Yeats, Edna Walsh, Niall Williams, and others. Irish Canadian playwrights include John Coalter, Emma Donaghue, Thomas D’Arcy McGee, James Reaney and others. To promote interest in Irish theatre studies and activities, this Scholarship is made possible by contributions of Mr. Padraig Finlay, P.Eng., M.Sc.E., B.E., and Dr. Mary Hogan-Finlay, Ph.D., M.A., B.Sc.N.
