Purpose of this Award
Provide funds to deserving students of the School of Nursing to attend conferences, colloquium, etc. The funds can be used to cover part or all costs related to travelling or registration for such events.
Eligibility Criteria
The candidate must:
- be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, a person with protected/refugee status or an international student
- be registered at the School of Nursing of the Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of Ottawa
- attend a conference or a colloquium
- demonstrate academic excellence
How to Apply
Submitted in the Online Scholarship and Bursaries portal, accessible via uoZone, and must include:
- a one-page statement from the candidate demonstrating his/her reasons and interest for attending a conference or a colloquium
- a proof of registration to the conference or colloquium
- an estimate of travel expenses expected to be incurred (or receipts in the case of a conference or colloquium that has already taken place)
Note: the applicant's financial account at the University of Ottawa must not be in deficit at the time of the application and at the time of the awarding should he/she be chosen as the recipient
About this Award
The fund was established by Dr. Helen K. Mussallem who received an honorary doctorate from the University of Ottawa in 1998. Dr. Mussallem has helped shape the country's health policies, raised standards of nursing education, and established the first national nursing library and archives. She also has addressed public health issues among the country's northern people, assisting nurses in their careers and developing the use of traditional medicine.
