Purpose of this Award
This scholarship is intended for Canadian Francophone university students interested in a variety of formal academic
and informal learning activities in virtually all disciplines—social sciences, arts, law, health sciences, and pure and
applied sciences. In order for the student to be eligible, the student's mother tongue must be French, the student must
have attended a French high school or French must be the language spoken at home by the student.
Students can choose from two streams:
• Exchange program: One or two sessions registered full-time. Course selection must be approved before the student's departure, to ensure that credits completed abroad are recognized by the program of study.
• International internship program: A minimum eight-week internship worth at least six credits in a program of study. Internships should usually take place in developing countries or countries whose economy is in transition.
Eligibility Criteria
The candidate must:
- be registered as a full-time student in an undergraduate or graduate program at the University of Ottawa
- be a Canadian citizen
- be registered for an exchange program headed by the International Office for 1 or 2 sessions of studies abroad OR be enrolled in a fully credited 8-week internship that counts for at least 6 credits in the student's program of studies
- participate in an exchange or an internship in a country other than Canada or the United States and where the official language is other than French or English. However, the language of instruction during an exchange can be French or English.
- have French as their mother tongue, have attended a French high school or have French as the language spoken at home
- have demonstrated community involvement and commitment to relevant social causes
- have a CGPA of at least 8.0
Note: Preference is given to exchanges or internships taking place in developing countries and countries whose
economy is in transition.
How to Apply
Submitted in the Online Scholarship and Bursaries portal, accessible via uoZone, and must include:
- proof of registration to an exchange or an internship
- a summary of the exchange or internship to be undertaken
- a copy of the applicant's high school transcript
- a letter of motivation (no more than one page in length) describing the candidate's capacity for and commitment to completing an international university experience
and using his or her newfound academic knowledge and cultural
awareness to contribute to Canada's prosperity and to society in general.
About this Award
This scholarship was created by the Charron-Duhamel family for a Canadian Francophone student. Anne Charron
(BCom 1987, LLB 1991, LLL 1992) and Vincent Duhamel (BScSoc 1986) met at Morisset Library. They now have
three children, and once a year as a family, they plan out their participation in charitable activities. They hope that their
involvement will inspire all graduates to follow their example.
