Purpose of this Award
To provide financial assistance to University of Ottawa medical students who show serious intent
to pursue a career in pediatric surgery, and who qualify under the terms of the Ontario Student
Opportunity Trust Fund program.
Eligibility Criteria
The candidate must:
- be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident
- be registered on a full-time basis in year 3 or 4 of the MD program at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Ottawa
- be an Ontario resident, as per OSAP (Ontario Student Assistance Program) rules
- demonstrate financial need, as determined by the Financial Aid and Awards Service of the University of Ottawa
- demonstrate a serious intent to pursue a career in pediatric surgery
- maintain a satisfactory academic standing as determined by the Faculty of Medicine
How to Apply
Submitted in the Online Scholarship and Bursaries portal, accessible via uoZone, and must include:
- the Financial Questionnaire
- a letter from the applicant stating a serious intent to pursue a career in paediatric surgery
About this Award
This fund was established in 1997 by Dr. R. Mervyn Letts, Head of the Department of Paediatric
Surgery at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario with his own funds, on behalf of the
Paediatric Surgical Staff. The donor wishes to thank the Alumni Association of the University of
Ottawa and the Government of Ontario for their matching contributions.
