Purpose of this Award

The purpose of the fund is to provide financial assistance to University of Ottawa medical students who qualify under the terms established by the Ontario Student Opportunity Trust Fund.

Eligibility Criteria

The candidate must:

  1. be registered full-time at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ottawa
  2. be an Ontario resident, as per OSAP (Ontario Student Assistance Program) rules
  3. demonstrate financial need, as determined by the Financial Aid and Awards Service of the University of Ottawa
  4. demonstrate outstanding academic achievement (for students entering the Faculty of Medicine)
OR

have achieved at least one honours grade and placed in the top 20% of the class in each medical year completed (for students already at the Faculty of Medicine). 

Recipients may not have failed a block or clerkship.

About this Award

This fund was established in 1997 by Mr. Peter Tolnai on the occasion of the appointment of his mother, Dr. Susan Tolnai, as Professor Emeritus of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ottawa.

The donor thanks the Alumni Association of the University of Ottawa and the Government of Ontario for their matching contributions.
