Purpose of this Award
To provide financial assistance to University of Ottawa medical students who are matched to a
pediatric medicine residency program and who qualify under the terms established by the Ontario
Student Opportunity Trust Fund.
Eligibility Criteria
The candidate must:
- be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident or a person with the protected/refugee status
- be registered as a full-time student to the 4th year of the MD program at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Ottawa
- be an Ontario resident, as per OSAP rules
- demonstrate financial need, as determined by the Financial Aid and Awards Service of the University of Ottawa
- have applied to a Pediatric Medicine Residency Program (selection will be done based on CaRMS results)
- have demonstrated academic excellence

About this Award
This fund was established by three generations of the Ward family in 1997 to mark the occasion of Walter
Cunningham Ward’s 80th birthday and to celebrate more than 54 years of marriage of Elizabeth Jackson
Ward and Walter Cunningham Ward. The donors thank the Alumni Association of the University of Ottawa
and the Government of Ontario for their matching contributions.
