About this Award
This bursary was generously created by the estate of Dr. Guy Blanchard. Dr. Blanchard was born on May 19, 1932, in Edmonton, Alberta. He died on July 5, 2018, in Montreal. He received his MD from the University of Ottawa in 1956 and became a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in 1962. He then practised orthopedic surgery, mainly in Quebec. He was also a pioneer in hair transplantation and had a great interest in training health professionals in palliative care. Dr. Blanchard was always grateful to the University of Ottawa, and he left a large sum in his will to the University of Ottawa Faculty of Medicine. Additional funds for this bursary come from the estates of his brother, Dr. Bernard Blanchard, who died in 2013, and of his sister, Marguerite Blanchard Di Michele, who died in 2013.
