About this Award

The Kanti and Indu Patel Foundation was established in 2020 by the family of Kanti (1932–2019) and Indu Patel (1935- ), who immigrated to Canada in 1974 from England, having been in war-torn Uganda prior to that. They raised their three daughters (Prerana, Alaka and Unnati) and a grandson (Anup) in this wonderful country, which has been a welcoming place and safe haven for immigrants from all over the world.

This scholarship has been established in appreciation of the Indigenous people of Canada, the original custodians of this peaceful and prosperous land we now call home. Because you shared your land with us, all of us have prospered and successfully built good lives here. In keeping with our parents’ belief that education is the path to a better life and community, we are paying this goodwill forward to future generations of Indigenous people in the hopes that they will also prosper and contribute not only to their communities but to Canada as a whole.
