Purpose of this Award

This fund has been established by the Faculty of Medicine's Undergraduate Medical Education Program in collaboration with the Black Medical Students Association (BMSA) of the University of Ottawa, to award a scholarship to a student from a Black community who is enrolled in the first year of the MD program at the University of Ottawa.

Eligibility Criteria

The candidate must:

  1. be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, a person with the protected/refugee status or an international student
  2. be a member of a Black community
  3. be registered as a full-time student in the first year of the MD program at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Ottawa
  4. demonstrate financial need, as determined by the Financial Aid and Awards Service of the University of Ottawa
  5. have made a contribution to issues of importance to Black Canadians aimed at the eradication of systemic discrimination and anti-Black racism relevant to Canadian society

How to Apply

Submitted in the Online Scholarship and Bursaries portal, accessible via uoZone, and must include:

  1. the Financial Questionnaire
  2. the Curriculum Vitae on Online Scholarships and Bursaries, detailing the applicant's community involvement, career achievements and objectives
  3. a letter of recommendation detailing the applicant's community involvement or career achievements. The letter must be addressed to the Chair of the Selection Committee
