Purpose of this Award
Offer financial assistance to MD students and residents at the Faculty of Medicine who have an interest in Hematology or Transfusion Medicine in order to defray travel expenses incurred to support national and international study and research.
Eligibility Criteria
The candidate must:
- be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, a person with the protected/refugee status or an international student
- be registered as a MD student or a resident in the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Ottawa
- have an interest in Hematology or Transfusion Medicine, as evidenced by either (i) a proposal for research conducted, or (ii) completed work to be presented
- participate in study or research activity abroad (national or international) that benefits their program
How to Apply
Submitted in the Online Scholarship and Bursaries portal, accessible via uoZone, and must include:
- a detailed summary of the applicant's research proposal or completed work in the field of Hematology or Transfusion Medicine
- a short description of the intended activity abroad and how it benefits the applicant's program
- a letter of recommendation from the applicant's research supervisor or program director
About this Award
This fund was created in honour of Dr. Jan Bormanis on the occasion of his retirement from the The Ottawa Hospital. Dr. Bormanis has had a full career at the University of Ottawa and the Ottawa Hospital; he has been influential in teaching many of the Faculty's students and residents.
