Purpose of this Award

To provide financial assistance to MD students in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ottawa.

Eligibility Criteria

The candidate must:

  1. be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, a person with the protected/refugee status or an international student
  2. be registered as a full-time undergraduate student to the MD program of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Ottawa
  3. demonstrate financial need, as determined by the Financial Aid and Awards Service of the University of Ottawa

About this Award

Mrs. Aileen Tidy expressed her wish to establish this bursary in 2004. Of the many professional careers Mrs. Tidy had during her lifetime, she felt her time as a medical secretary was the most rewarding and fulfilling. Her experience as a medical secretary brought her to teaching hospitals where she enjoyed the learning environment and developed a fascination with medicine. She gained a new perspective on and respect for medical staff.

Mrs. Tidy therefore wished to support students pursuing a career in medicine through this bursary, is funded through the proceeds of her Registered Retirement Income Fund (RRIF) following her passing.
