Purpose of this Award
The primary intent of the fund is to provide financial support to Neurosurgery residents who have a proven record of
medical research, preferably in the Neurosciences, and who wish to pursue their research further.
Eligibility Criteria
The candidate must:
- be registered as a resident in the Division of Neurosurgery of the Faculty of Medicine
- be enrolled in the Clinician Investigator Program at the Faculty of Medicine
- have been involved in or have conducted medical research
In the event that an appropriate neurosurgery resident is not identified, the committee may then consider awarding
the funds to a doctoral or post-doctoral fellow pursuing research in the field of Neuroscience. Priority would be
given to trainees who are under the direct supervision of a Principal Investigator/Clinician Scientist from the
Division of Neurosurgery. The research must be carried out under the auspices of the uOBMRI.

- a copy of the applicant's curriculum vitae
- a comprehensive summary of the medical research the applicant has been involved in or has conducted
- a synopsis of the proposed research activity or project
About this Award
The Dr. Michael T. Richard Neurosurgery Endowment Fund was established jointly by Dr. Michael T. Richard and the
University of Ottawa. A graduate of the Faculty of Medicine's Class of 1960, Dr. Richard is also a former Chair of the
University's Division of Neurosurgery. He has practiced in the city of Ottawa for over 45 years, principally at the
Ottawa General Hospital where he also served as Head for the Hospital Division of Neurosurgery for 23 years.
