Purpose of this Award

To provide financial assistance to University of Ottawa medical students who qualify under the terms established by the Ontario Trust for Student Support.

Eligibility Criteria

The candidate must:

  1. be registered full-time in the 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of a program at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Ottawa
  2. be an Ontario resident, as per OSAP rules
  3. demonstrate financial need, as determined by the Financial Aid and Awards Service of the University of Ottawa
  4. demonstrate involvement in extra-curricular activities in medical school and/or charitable organizations outside of medical school

How to Apply

Submitted in the Online Scholarship and Bursaries portal, accessible via uoZone, and must include:

  1. the Financial Questionnaire
  2. one letter of reference from a professor or a representative of the charitable organization where the applicant is involved

About this Award

This fund was established in 2003 by the graduating class of 1983 in memory of Dr. Don Potvin. Dr. Potvin captured the spirit of medicine and the spirit of student life. He participated in all aspects of medical student life at the University of Ottawa, including student affairs; sports; med show and inspired many charitable events and class ventures. Dr. Potvin inspired those around him to do more to help those in need. He captured the hope and enthusiasm of medicine.
