Purpose of this Award

To support a graduate student enrolled in the MSc, PhD or MD-PhD program in the Faculty of Medicine who plans to conduct research on ovarian cancer at the University of Ottawa.

Eligibility Criteria

The candidate must:

  1. be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, a person with the protected/refugee status or an international student
  2. be enrolled as a full-time graduate student (MSc, PhD or MD-PhD) in the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Ottawa
  3. conduct or intend to conduct research in ovarian cancer at the University of Ottawa
  4. demonstrate an interest in pursuing research in ovarian cancer in their future career

How to Apply

Submitted in the Online Scholarship and Bursaries portal, accessible via uoZone, and must include:

  1. a letter (max. 500 words) describing the applicant’s planned research project in ovarian cancer
  2. the applicant’s CV, including a full list of any publications
  3. one letter of recommendation, from the applicant’s current supervisor (max 2 pages)
  4. a letter (max. 500 words) of the applicant’s career goals and why they want to pursue research in ovarian cancer

About this Award

This award was created by Paul Berthon in memory of his wife, Barbara Berthon, who passed away from ovarian cancer in 2015. This scholarship fund will make an impact on the lives of over 3,000 women diagnosed each year with ovarian cancer in Canada, while honouring the legacy of Paul’s beloved wife, Barbara, by supporting life-saving research and innovation to prevent, detect and treat ovarian cancer.
