Purpose of this Award
To award a scholarship to an undergraduate student enrolled in the Faculty of Law, Common Law
Section, who demonstrates involvement and leadership in the Chinese community and a
commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Eligibility Criteria
The candidate must:
- be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, a person with protected or refugee status or an international student
- be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student in the Faculty of Law, Common Law Section of the University of Ottawa;
- demonstrate involvement and leadership in the Chinese community
- demonstrate a commitment to diversity and inclusion

Submitted in the Online Scholarship and Bursaries portal, accessible via uoZone, and must include:
- a letter (max. 500 words) describing the applicant’s involvement and leadership in the Chinese community and commitment to diversity and inclusion
About this Award
This scholarship was generously created by George Hua (JD ’23) and Matthew Tai (JD ’23) to
recognize the important contributions and accomplishments of law students involved in the
Chinese community. As first-generation law students, George and Matthew care deeply about
achieving excellence and furthering diversity and inclusion in their communities, at the Faculty of
Law and within the legal profession. They hope that this scholarship will encourage others to
prioritize leadership and community service in their personal and professional endeavours.
