About this Award

This Scholarship is in honour of Patrick Smith and Nicole Durocher, who worked as teachers and contributed to the growth of countless students. For example, they helped disadvantaged families after class and took part in numerous educational initiatives, including the creation of learning programs for francophone countries in Africa. They also developed learning modules to illustrate the endemic effects of residential schools, working with Indigenous educators, and helped develop online resources.

The purpose of the bursary is to further Patrick Smith and Nicole Durocher's mission to promote teaching and perpetuate the values they believed in by helping develop young legal professionals who come from disadvantaged backgrounds, face social and historical obstacles and are interested in legal education and social justice.
