Purpose of this Award

To provide financial support to qualified students entering the first year of the JD Program at the Faculty of Law, Common Law Section of the University of Ottawa. In particular, this scholarship is intended to assist students who, without a scholarship of this magnitude, might be precluded altogether from attending law school.

Eligibility Criteria

The candidate must:

  1. be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident or a person with the protected/refugee status
  2. be an Ontario resident, as per OSAP rules
  3. have been admitted into the first year of the JD program at the Faculty of Law, Common Law Section of the University of Ottawa
  4. demonstrate financial need, as determined by the Financial Aid and Awards Service of the University of Ottawa

  1. the Financial Questionnaire
  2. a brief statement from the candidate describing how this scholarship would make a difference in their pursuit of legal studies

About this Award

This scholarship was created by Gabriel Tsampalieros, graduate of the Common Law Class of 1973, in memory of his father, Theodosios Tsampalieros (1911-1974). Theodosios Tsampalieros left his village on Rhodes Island, Greece, in 1951 to move to Montreal. He was an entrepreneur in the truest sense. He was a risk taker. He took a risk on vision. He loved this country and he saw the opportunities it offered to those who came to Canada. This scholarship was established in order to commemorate his father’s entrepreneurial spirit.

The donor thanks the Government of Ontario who helped create this fund through its generous matching contributions.
