Purpose of this Award

To fund three annual entrance scholarships for students entering the JD program at the Faculty of Law, Common Law Section, at the University of Ottawa, on the basis of academic excellence and a demonstrated interest and commitment to public service.

Eligibility Criteria

The candidate must:

  1. be admitted full-time in the first year of the JD program at the Faculty of Law, Common Law Section
  2. demonstrate academic excellence
  3. demonstrate an interest and commitment to public service

How to Apply

Submitted in the Online Scholarship and Bursaries portal, accessible via uoZone, and must include:

  1. an essay, maximum of 500 words, which details applicant's interest and commitment to public service

About this Award

These scholarships were established in 1992 by the Honourable Henry N.R. Jackman, Lieutenant Governor of the Province of Ontario, in memory of his grandfather, the Honourable Newton Wesley Rowell.

Three scholarships have been established at each law school in Ontario to encourage students of varying backgrounds and origins, interested in public service to study law in Ontario.
