Purpose of this Award

To grant scholarships that will enable students in the Formation à l’enseignement program to study and conduct research in education, in relation to teaching social sciences, and more specifically but not limited to teaching history/geography.

Eligibility Criteria

The candidate must:

  1. be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident or a person with the protected/refugee status
  2. be registered in the Formation à l’enseignement program (Primary/Junior Division) OR with a concentration in history or geography (Intermediate/Senior Division)
  3. be an Ontario resident, as per OSAP rules
  4. demonstrate financial need, as determined by the Financial Aid and Awards Service of the University of Ottawa
  5. be in good academic standing

This scholarship was created by Rita G. de Guire, professor at the Faculty of Education, now retired. She wished to establish the fund in memory of her parents, Edmond de Guire and Diana André-de Guire, who were gifted with a generous spirit and great intellectual curiosity, and who always encouraged and supported her throughout her school years.
