Purpose of this Award

To support students who are part of a racialized community enrolled in the Formation à l’enseignement program at the University of Ottawa Faculty of Education.

Eligibility Criteria

The candidate must:

  1. be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, a person with the protected/refugee status, or an international student
  2. be enrolled full time in the French-language Formation à l’enseignement program in the Faculty of Education of the University of Ottawa
  3. be a racialized person (member of a visible minority), meaning a person other than an Indigenous person who is non-white in colour or race, regardless of place of birth or citizenship
  4. demonstrate financial need, as determined by the Financial Aid and Awards Service of the University of Ottawa

How to Apply

Submitted in the Online Scholarship and Bursaries portal, accessible via uoZone, and must include:

  1. the Financial Questionnaire
  2. a statement from the applicant self-identifying as a member of a racialized community
within the meaning of section 2.1 (“‘Race’ — a social construct”) of the Ontario Human Rights Commission’s Policy and guidelines on racism and racial discrimination

About this Award

This fund was established by Professor Donatille Mujawamariya as part of the 2002 Campus Campaign in honour of her father, Bizimana, who dedicated himself to the education of youth in his community in Rwanda. Professor Mujawamariya wishes to promote and encourage the integration of visible minorities in the teaching profession in Canada.
