About this Award

This fund was established in 1987 in memory of Suzanne Wright, daughter of Dr. Edgar and Mrs Barbara Wright, a graduate of the Faculty of Education (B.Ed. 1986, cum laude) and a first year teacher who died tragically in an automobile accident on her way to teach her kindergarten class. Although she was young, she had already made a mark in the world with her enthusiasm, love of life, optimism, leadership and boundless energy.

Suzanne filled her 24 years with education, playing school even as a child. She loved to dance and was a student of dance and rhythmic movement from age four. These skills were later used in the classroom and to help support herself through teaching aerobics. A qualified swimming instructor, she was involved in adaptive aquatics for people with different abilities. A camper as a child, she became a counsellor and day-camp programme coordinator, initiating programs to integrate people with a broad range of capabilities.

The purpose of this scholarship is to provide some financial support to a student displaying similar qualities and the same promise and example for tomorrow’s pupils.
