About this Award
This fund was established in 2004 by friends, family, students and alumni to recognize and honour Dr. Tyseer Aboulnasr's contributions to the Faculty of Engineering, since 1985. As Dean from May 1998 to July 2004, Dr. Aboulnasr led the Faculty of Engineering at a time of impressive growth in undergraduate and graduate student enrollment, research funding and professorial body. By the end of her term, the Faculty reached 116 professors, over 2800 undergraduate students and roughly 800 graduate students, one Killam Prize winner, five prestigious Canada Research Chairs, one University Research Chair, numerous PREA's, two CD Howe awards, a research budget of 60 million dollars over the last five years and numerous prestigious honors for excellence in teaching and research. The Faculty also established numerous initiatives to enhance the learning environment for students, to improve internal communications, to strengthen our links with alumni and our community at large and in general enhance the faculty presence in the community and the sense of pride our faculty community (personnel, students and alumni) have. Dr. Aboulnasr was also Acting Dean from January to May 1998 and Associate Dean from January 1996 to July 1998. After completing her term as Dean, Dr. Aboulnasr returned to her main role as a professor in SITE.
The donors thank the Government of Ontario who helped create this fund through its generous matching contributions.
