About this Award
This scholarship was established by Professor Tony Durst, who helped create the honours in biopharmaceutical science program in 1999 and served as its director for the first 10 years.
Professor Durst celebrated his arrival in Canada in 1949 with his parents as stateless displaced persons due to the Second World War by donating funds for this scholarship. Inspired by Benjamin Franklin’s 1797 two hundred-year legacy project that offered low-interest loans to young tradesmen in Boston and Philadelphia and reinvested the repaid funds to support future generations, Dr. Durst hopes that scholarship recipients will, on graduating and achieving financial security, continue this tradition by supporting future students at the University of Ottawa, either by contributing to this scholarship fund or creating their own.
