About this Award

Youville Centre's mandate is to provide an environment for high-risk young single mothers, one in which staff and peers serve as a support system and as role models to facilitate the growth of young parents and their children in self-worth, self-confidence, and in skills required to become productive members of society. Youville Centre's holistic, integrated program believes in recognizing the individual needs of clients, and in supporting their commitments to finishing their education and to living independently and assisting them to provide a life circumstance to their children which builds in strong protective factors and influences so that their children will not develop mental health, behavioural and social problems in their future lives. The Youville Centre wishes to thank the Alumni Association of the University of Ottawa for its contribution to the fund by investing proceeds of the 1997 Alumni Association Golf Tournament and the Government of Ontario for its matching contribution.
