About this Award
In 1996, Marybeth Cameron, single mother of a one-year-old son, Blake, overcame financial challenges to
embark on a degree in biochemistry at the University of Ottawa. Her accomplishments in the field, highlighted
by impactful publications, underscore the significance of financial support.
Despite the demands of parenthood and academics, Marybeth not only completed her degree but also met her future husband, Andrew Creskey, at the University.
Andrew studied numerous disciplines and graduated with a computer science major. He used his education to forge a successful career in software development. Central to his perspective is the belief that a just society includes affordable access to education.
This award seeks to extend opportunities to single mothers pursuing science or engineering degrees.
