About this Award

This bursary was generously created in memory of Lorraine M. Ridgen. Lorraine was an alumna of the University of Ottawa (BA '82, BSocSc '84) and worked for 34 years with various federal departments before her retirement in 2018. Lorraine was a loving wife and mother; her two boys were her constant source of pride and joy. Lorraine was also a tireless volunteer with many charities. She always gave back to work and community more than she demanded. As a senior staff advisor, her work ethic was unquestionable, her logic and responses were always measured and unbiased and she was always able to see both sides of any argument. Lorraine connected a devoted and widespread diverse network of co-workers, friends and family.
This memorial bursary is to preserve Lorraine's memory and to create a lasting legacy for her. It is created in support of students in the School of Nursing that exemplify the professionalism, compassion and care she received from the critical care nursing staff after the accident that eventually took her life.
