About this Award
Alysse Weinberg, an associate professor at the University of Ottawa’s Official Languages and Bilingualism Institute (OLBI), established this bursary to play a role in raising the profile of the French Immersion Stream, OLBI and the Faculty of Arts.
Professor Weisberg began her career in 1980, first teaching part time at the Centre for Second Language Learning, and then at OLBI, before becoming a permanent professor. In sharing her knowledge of language, she wished to broaden learners’ horizons, give them the desire to communicate in Canada’s other official language and deepen their knowledge of culture in French.
Alysse Weinberg has taught students in the French Immersion Stream since it was established in 2006. A specialist in language support courses, including in history, she has conducted research and published widely on various aspects of immersion education at the university level.
