Purpose of this Award

To award a scholarship to students registered at the University of Ottawa in a program leading to a Bachelor in Commerce (B.Com) at the Telfer School of Management, or a Bachelor of Arts in Communication at the Faculty of Arts. Candidates must have shown, in their work or volunteer activities, the qualities needed to succeed and a strong interest in the interface between public and private sectors ethics.

Eligibility Criteria

The candidate must:

  1. be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, a person with the protected/refugee status or an international student
  2. be registered at the University of Ottawa in a program leading to a Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) from the Telfer School of Management or a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from the Faculty of Arts
  3. have a CGPA of 7.0 or more
  4. demonstrate volunteer involvement
  5. show a clear understanding of the importance of good governance and the application of ethics principles in their work, whether it be as a student, a volunteer or for remuneration
  6. demonstrate a strong interest in public sector ethics and the interface between public and private sectors ethics

How to Apply

Submitted in the Online Scholarship and Bursaries portal, accessible via uoZone, and must include:

  1. the Curriculum Vitae on Online Scholarships and Bursaries
  2. two reference letters describing how the candidate meets selection criteria number 5 and 6
  3. a brief text from the candidate outlining how he/she clearly understands the importance of good governance andthe interface between public and private sectors ethics, and demonstrating the application of ethics principles in his/her work,
        whether it be as a student, a volunteer or for remuneration

About this Award

This fund is established by the Organizing Committee of the Year 2000 Conference of the International Institute for Public Ethics. A relationship has been shown to exist between organizational governance, effectiveness and corporate performance over the longer term. With this in mind, it is important for the workers of the future to have a clear understanding of the importance of establishing a level of trust and ethical culture in any organization they are associated with, whether it be on a volunteer basis or work environment.
