Purpose of this Award

To provide financial assistance to well-rounded engineering students of high academic achievement who demonstrate leadership and whose education would otherwise be compromised.

Eligibility Criteria

The candidate must:

  1. be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, or a person with protected or refugee status
  2. be enrolled full time in the second, third, fourth or final year of an undergraduate CEAB (Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board)-accredited program at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Ottawa
  3. demonstrate a strong aptitude1 for engineering
  4. demonstrate exceptional leadership skills and service as a role model through involvement in professional affairs and extracurricular activities
  5. be a member of a racialized community as per the Government of Canada definition
  6. demonstrate financial need, as determined by the Financial Aid and Awards Service of the University of Ottawa
  7. not have received more than $10,000 in overall scholarships for the academic year at the time of selection, including the Ontario Professional Engineers Foundation for Education Entrance Scholarship
Important Note for Criterion #5:
Members of racialized communities are defined as “persons, other than Aboriginal peoples, who are non Caucasian in race or non-white in colour.” Racialized communities consist mainly of the following groups: South Asian, Chinese, Black, Filipino, Latin American, Arab, Southeast Asian, West Asian, Korean and Japanese;

OR 

provide documented proof of Indigenous identity, in accordance with the requirements of the University of Ottawa Eligibility for Focused Admissions, Scholarships, and Bursaries for First Nations, Inuit, and Métis People administrative procedure.

How to Apply

Submitted in the Online Scholarship and Bursaries portal, accessible via uoZone, and must include:

  1. the Financial Questionnaire
  2. a letter (max. 500 words) demonstrating their strong aptitude* for engineering and their exceptional leadership skills and service as a role model through involvement in professional affairs and extracurricular activities
  3. a resumé
  4. a statement from the applicant who identifies as a member of a racialized community
OR

documented proof of Indigenous identity, in accordance with the requirements of the University of Ottawa Eligibility for Focused Admissions, Scholarships, and Bursaries for First Nations, Inuit, and Métis People administrative procedure.

The foundation encourages Ontario engineering students to achieve academic excellence and to develop their leadership qualities by awarding entrance and undergraduate scholarships. These scholarships demonstrate the commitment of the profession to its future leadership and excellence.
