About this Award

This scholarship was generously created by the Heads of Mission Spouses Association and the Canadian Federation for University Women-Ottawa to help refugee women pursue postsecondary studies and build a life for themselves in Canada. HOMSA is an association of spouses of ambassadors and high commissioners accredited to Canada. It is an informal association founded to provide opportunities for heads of missions’ spouses to meet one another beyond their regional groups and to learn about Canada and Canadian society.

Since its establishment in 1996, HOMSA has helped numerous charitable organizations and causes.

The Canadian Federation of University Women is a non-partisan, voluntary, self-funded organization with nearly 100 clubs, located in every province across Canada. Founded in 1919, CFUW works to improve the status of women and promote human rights, public education, social justice and peace.

The Canadian Federation of University Women–Ottawa was founded in 1910 and is dedicated to women’s and girl’s education and rights. Last year 48 scholarships were awarded to women in Ottawa pursuing postsecondary education. The awards, a combination of endowed and annual awards, totalled $90,500.
