Purpose of this Award
To award scholarships to undergraduate students who have distinguished themselves through their
academic excellence and community leadership and who demonstrate financial need.
Eligibility Criteria
The candidate must:
- be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, a person with protected/refugee status or an international student
- be enrolled as a full-time student in an undergraduate program at the University of Ottawa
- demonstrate financial need, as determined by the Financial Aid and Awards Service of the University of Ottawa
- demonstrate academic excellence
- demonstrate leadership in their community through involvement
Note: Every year, three scholarships will be reserved for Indigenous students. Applicants who
meet this criterion will be asked to provide documented proof of Indigenous identity, in accordance
with the University of Ottawa Eligibility for Focused Admissions, Scholarships, and Bursaries for
First Nations, Inuit, and Métis People administrative procedure.
How to Apply
Submitted in the Online Scholarship and Bursaries portal, accessible via uoZone, and must include:
- the Financial Questionnaire
- the Curriculum Vitae on Online Scholarships and Bursaries
- a letter from the applicant (max. 500 words) that summarizes their community involvement
- documented proof of Indigenous identity, in accordance with the University of Ottawa Eligibility for Focused Admissions, Scholarships, and Bursaries for First Nations, Inuit, and Métis People administrative procedure (if applicable)
In the case of multiple candidates meeting the base requirements, the selection committee will
select the recipient based on the award policies and standard criteria used by the Financial Aid and
Awards Service at the time of selection.
About this Award
This scholarship was generously created to encourage and support undergraduate students in arts
and science who are leaders in their community. The founder and trustee of the Y.P. Heung
Foundation, Raymond Heung, is an alumnus of the University of Ottawa who first came to Canada
in September 1966 to attend uOttawa as an international student. His positive experience helped
him appreciate Canada, a country he has been a proud citizen of for over 50 years.
