Purpose of this Award

The purpose of this fund is to encourage newly admitted students to pursue their studies in French or in French Immersion

Eligibility Criteria

The candidate must:

  1. be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, a person of protected/refugee status
  2. meet the University's general eligibility criteria and those of the chosen program of study
  3. be registered as a full-time student, for the first time in an undergraduate program
  4. be registered in French Immersion Studies, if offered in the program
  5. be registered to at least 6 credits (e.g. 2 courses) per session taught in French or in French as a second language (FLS)
  6. place in the top rankings of the French for the Future Essay Contest, based on the following rankings:
a) First place - $3,000 per year (for up to four years)

b) Second Place - $2,000 per year (for up to four years) 

c) Third Place - $1,000 per year (for up four years) 

d) Finalist - $1,000 one-time scholarship

How to Apply

No application required. Candidates are automatically considered.

Renewal Criteria:

This scholarship may be renewed (for those the recipients that first, second and third in the contest) for three years following the first year of study for the same amount offered at the time of admission, provided that the recipient:

  1. maintain full-time registration in a direct-entry faculty or in the Faculty of Law, Civil Law Section
  2. maintain a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 5.5 at the end of each academic year (1)
  3. be registered to at least 6 credits (e.g. 2 courses) per session taught in French or in French as a second language (FLS)

Notes:

Temporary interruption of your studies or registration part-time or as a special student will lead to your scholarship being revoked for the rest of your studies. 

(1) If your CGPA is below 5.5 at the end of an academic year, your scholarship will not be renewed. However, if your CGPA meets or exceeds the 5.5 minimum at the end of the following academic year, you can receive the full amount of the award again. This does not apply to students who started their first year of studies in winter 2014 or earlier.
