About this Award
The Tadeusz Grygier Founder's Prize was established at the Department of Criminology in honour and memory of Dr.
Tadeusz Grygier, an eminent erudite scholar/sailor and founder of the Department. The late Professor Grygier
established the department with interdisciplinary programs, reflecting his passion for both academic research and the
practical application of science-based criminological knowledge. He was one of the pioneers in criminology in Canada,
with innovative contributions to psychological and criminological research, and instrumental in introducing the concept
of restorative justice in Canada. Life experience, even more than books, made him an advocate of a fair, flexible and
humanist justice.
