About this Award

This fund was established in August 2009 in honour of Dr. Charles W. MacLeod, MD, who passed away November 12, 2007. Dr. MacLeod was a pioneer in hand surgery, re-attaching a severed hand of an accident victim in the Michigan area. He received his medical degree from the University of Ottawa Faculty of Medicine in 1951, part of the Faculty’s first graduating class. Following this, Dr. MacLeod completed his internship at the Ottawa Civic Hospital and then specialized in surgery at the Grace Hospital and the Ford Hospital in Detroit. He was a leader in his field.

Dr. Macleod left his gift as a bequest to the Faculty of Medicine.

The estate of Dr. Charles MacLeod thanks the Government of Ontario for its matching contribution.
